ABOUT DEWORMING AND VACCINES

Puppy should continue with deworming protocol per your veterinarian typically through 16 weeks and have a stool check done with your vet. This is normal protocol. We have done deworming here with Pyrantel at 2,4,6,8, weeks, however puppies put everything in their mouths, sometimes even (eating poop) so it’s best to follow your vets’ advice with a repeat stool about a month after going home to be certain that nothing has developed as a result of that. Just remember to keep play areas tidy and wash toys and bowls with hot soapy water – rinse well daily. Routine stool samples at annual visits are required for this same reason.

We personally do core vaccines and are very minimalistic due to chihuahuas small stature and literature about overvaccination injury. You must weigh the risks of your families’ lifestyle and have a discussion with your vet about non-core vaccines, such as leptospirosis and kennel cough, etc. In some instances it may be more beneficial to have them. We advise doing your own research as vaccines definitely carry risk and benefits. We can not stress enough the dangers and life threatening potential of over vaccination and adverse effects.
